June 2024 Update

This message is going out to all Adult Volunteers in Gemini Service Unit

The service unit has a lot of great information to share, and we meet with our troop leaders each month.

The service unit leadership thought we should send a message to all to help spread the word on items we are working on.  If you would prefer to not receive these emails in the future, you can unsubscribe at the bottom of this email.

We have a new Ingathering Chair: Melanie Caramama!
She has great ideas for a fun and fresh Ingathering.

We need feedback and planning assistance from our CSA‘s (Cadettes Seniors and Ambassadors) as well as adults and leaders. During our last meeting we received many great ideas and suggestions around dates and locations.

To sign up to be apart of the committee please email your intent / interest to gemini.service.unit@gmail.com by July 1

The committee will post polls on dates and locations for us all to vote on, and we will go towards the most popular items.  The polls will be shared on our Facebook group, on our website, and through this email newsletter.

Thank you for participating in this great Girl Scout tradition!

Your service unit leadership is maturing and we are looking for new members to fill and take over roles as our girls bridge to adults!

If you are interested in helping out, please reach out to gemini.service.unit@gmail.com

Opportunities to help:

  • Service Unit Manager
  • Assistant Service Unit Manager
  • Recruitment
  • Treasurer
  • Fall Product Sale
  • Cookies Sale
  • Girl Programming and Events.

If you have a special skill that might be helpful, please reach out.  We are looking to increase our pool of support in all these areas.

We are looking for School Liaisons to help us get Girl Scout materials to the schools. If you work at a Fort Pierce, Port St Lucie, or Okeechobee school or are volunteer or have a connection with one, please let us know.

Upcoming Events

Our service unit calendar is on our website at
https://www.geminigirlscouts.org/calendar

Council is still putting dates together, here is what we have so far:

  • 6/30/2024 Troop Financial Reports are due.  Troop leaders log in to Volunteer Toolkit at gssef.org and choose the “Finances” tab.
  • 8/5/2024 – First monthly leader meeting of the new Girl Scout year. We will be holding the meeting virtually on Zoom, with an in-person meeting later in the month for Fall Product training.  Zoom meeting link is pinned to the top of our Facebook group, in the calendar entry for the meeting on our calendar, and at the top of our Linktree.
  • 10/4/2024 -10/6/2024 – CSA Weekend at Camp Nocatee – Stay tuned for a call for planning committee volunteers for this event!
  • 1/11/2025 – World Thinking Day at Camp Hidden Hammock
  • 5/3/2025 – Law Day 2025

For volunteers who are seeing this for the first time, and want to stay connected with the Gemini Service Unit for future events and updates, there are several ways to connect:

  • This email list – we will send emails out once a month after every service unit leader meeting, and other times where we have important information or reminders to share.  If you know someone who would benefit from getting these messages, but is not already on the list, they can sign up at this link
  • Our Service Unit Websitegeminigirlscouts.org – Links to our calendar, library of things, contact information for the service unit team, notes from our past meetings, and more!
  • Service Unit Facebook GroupFollow this link to join the Facebook group.  Please send anyone who wishes to join this link instead of inviting them directly from the group, that way we can screen folks and try to keep spam bots out of our group.
  • Linktree https://Linktr.ee/GeminiGSSEF has all our links in one spot!
  • Discord – We have a moderated service unit Discord server.  It’s available for your use if you need a group chat for planning and organizing, communicating as a committee, or just need to reach someone on the service unit team via chat.  It’s available for troop use as well.  Join link is here!

We hope everyone is having a great summer and are looking forward to a fun and exciting new Girl Scout year!

April Leader Update

Greetings Gemini Leaders!  With April almost in the rear view window (how has that happened!) and the end of the school year (!) coming up on us fast, here’s some quick but important updates and reminders for you!

Leader Appreciation Dinner / May Leader Meeting

As is our tradition, our May Leader Meeting is also our Leader Appreciation Dinner!  Come gather together (in person!) to enjoy some food, fun, and celebrate each other’s accomplishments and hard work this year.

The dinner will be held on Monday, May 13 at 6:30pm at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Pierce.

If you can join us please RSVP by checking the pinned post at the top of the Facebook group, or email gstroop40038@gmail.com to confirm.

It’s always good to see everyone in person, and engage in some face-to-face interaction (remember that?)

(And sometimes we have really good nosh too!)

Cookie Rewards

If you have not yet picked up your cookie rewards please text or call Laurie Bannister-Williams at (203)577-7977 to arrange a time for pickup.

Girl Scout Grand Prix

The Girl Scout Grand Prix v3.0 has been re-rescheduled for Sunday, May 19 at 2:00pm at the Disabled American Veteran’s hall in Port St Lucie.  Neither rain, nor snow, nor extended cookie seasons will keep this race from going this May.  If your troop would like to get in on the action, we still have some car kits available and there’s still time to make some cars.  Interested?  Send Joe an email at gstroop40038@gmail.com

Ingathering Report

We had a small-but-mighty Ingathering this month.  The girls enjoyed their time at Camp Welaka, had some fun exploring different countries and their Olympic events, and might have even had a sneak peek at the newly restored Catwalk through the mangroves.  (And I understand from my troop that while the Australian TimTams were tasty, the Marmite was….. less popular.  But we can’t knock a new experience!)

At any rate, we so rarely get the chance to gather together and share experiences across troops like this, so thank you to everyone who came out and camped together.  And a special thank-you to Karyl and the Ingathering planning team for putting it all together for us!  And if you missed out, we’ll be doing it again!

And lastly…

Keep an eye out for some surveys.  This is the time of year that we like to take stock as service unit, check in with everyone, and talk about how we can help support you better in the next year.  They’ll come in an email like this one.  We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Cookie Sale Extended By One Week

Due to lower sales this cookie season, GSSEF has extended cookie season by one week.  The new last day of booth sales is Sunday, March 3.

Here’s the Basics

  • Council is attempting to secure permission from the locations they organize to allow us to sell for one more weekend.  Booths that are listed in eBudde are available to be picked now.
  • As a service unit, we will need to contact our own host locations and secure permission to participate for another weekend.
WE WILL NEED HELP REACHING OUT TO OUR HOST LOCATIONS AND SECURING PERMISSION
  • As a service unit, we are still figuring out how to best arrange for booths for this new, final weekend.  We will communicate with you via email and Facebook the minute we have more information.
  • Council is offering an incentive to order more cookies from our cupboard for this last weekend.
Ordering 5 cases will earn your troop a $10 gift card to the council shop.
Ordering 10 cases will earn you a $25 gift card.
These promotions are cumulative, and will stack.
Cookies must be ordered between today (Thursday Feb 22 and next Thursday Feb 29)
  • Council is offering a fun patch incentive for girls who participate in a booth sale during the “bonus week” of sales.  The original “last booth” patches will go to girls who participate in booths this Saturday and Sunday as originally planned.  Booths must be in eBudde to qualify.

Additional $5 Shipping Flash Sale

On Feb 29 we will be running another $5 shipping incentive for online orders.  The sale will run until the shipping budget runs out, so have your folks prepared!

Deadline Dates and Reminders

2/29/2024: Reduced Shipping Flash Sale

3/3/2024: Booth sales extended through Sunday, March 3rd

3/7/2024: Final ACH

3/10/2024: Troop rewards submission due

3/12/2024: SU rewards submissions due

Important Cookie Cupboard Information

Barbara McGrogan has graciously volunteered her time and her home as our cookie cupboard for this season. (It’s where you can go to get more cookies, place an order using the Transactions tab in eBudde.) Please give her a big “thanks” when you see her, as this is NOT a small undertaking.

Inventory Update

As of this morning, Friday Feb 2, the cupboard is out of Toffeetastics and Do-si-dos. We may be able to get some back in stock, but as of now there are none to be had. Those flavors have been marked as “out” on eBudde. If you already had a transaction approved before today, your order will be filled.

How to Schedule and Pick Up a Cupboard Order

  • Place your order on Ebudde then call or text Barbara at 609-320-8718 to confirm the order and schedule a pickup time.
  • Print and bring your transaction receipt (the one with three parts to it.)
  • Make sure you bring enough help to load your vehicle, and that you have enough space to transport your order.
  • Bring an extra dolly or cart if available. (Barbara has one dolly and 2 carts.)
  • Please back into the driveway on one side or the other, not the middle (so that two people can pick up at the same time.
  • No pickups will be available on Feb 10 or 11
  • Please reach out with any questions or challenges.

They also brushed up on knot tying, backpacking skills and equipment, and built a new fire pit for the camp

If you are interested in volunteering to help run this year’s cookie rally, please call or text Joe at (772)940-9456 or email gstroop40038@gmail.com. We need a couple of volunteers to lead the event, and can get supplies and support materials from council.

Council Cookie Booth Lottery – Jan 2

Council is holding a cookie booth lottery on January 2 for the booths that they secured at the council level (Wal-Mart and Winn-Dixie locations in our service unit.)

Starting on Jan 2, those booth locations and times will become available in Ebudde to select for your troop.  The initial lottery period will be January 2 – 8.  During this time period, troops of 12 girls and under may make TWO booth selections PER DAY for a total of 14 booth selections during that week period.  Troops of 13 or more girls may make FOUR booth selections PER DAY for total of 28 selections during that week.  Troops of 25 or more girls may make SIX booth selections PER DAY for a total of 42 booth selections during that week.

If you would like to be considered for participation in GAB/GAB click the button below.  Sign ups are due by Jan 8.

Leader Meeting January 8

Don’t forget our monthly leader meeting on January 8. We’ll have lots of stuff to talk about and will be answering burning cookie sale questions.

The Power of You – Council Event on Nov 11

We’re excited to share that we are hosting the Power of You in Fort Pierce!

This event is for Juniors, Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors and includes all the Girls Scouts need to earn GSUSA’s brand new Mental Wellness Patch. At this event, Girl Scouts learn to support themselves and others through challenging life situations by strengthening Mental Wellness skills.

Check out what attendees from our Power of You West Palm Beach event had to say!

“My daughter and I LOVED the mental health awareness event last weekend, she immediately wanted to go out and buy the doodle papers to use as a self-care tool and has been using words that tell me she is applying what she learned! Awesome event.”

“I am so thankful for all the resources that were shared today. I am dealing with some mental health struggles with my family at home, and the resources provided today will help me navigate these challenges so much.”

“This was my favorite event so far. Seeing my girl work with other girls on such important topics and providing the opportunity for me to learn as well was really great. The journals in the bag were awesome and my girl is already working on it!”

Another attendee shared that since they’ve taken part in Power of You, they need to have the rest of their troop experience the program.

The day is filled with engaging craft activities that highlight what the Girl Scouts learn, and they even get a great swag bag filled with mental wellness goodies, a Power of You event patch, and the Mental Wellness Patch.

Adults will also have their own breakout group lead by National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) who partnered with HCA Healthcare Foundation and Girl Scouts of the USA to create this curriculum.

Check out the registration link for more details!
