November Leader Meeting Notes

Thanks to everyone who jumped on the call to share their notes and upcoming events!  If you missed the meeting, or need a refresher, the recap is below!

Girl Scouts Welcomes Veterans At Texas Roadhouse – Monday Nov 11

This Veteran’s Day (Monday Nov 11) Texas Roadhouse has again invited the Gemini Girl Scouts to join them in honoring and welcoming veterans at their Port St Lucie location from 11am – 2pm.  Present them with flags, meal coupons, and tell them “thank you.”

Texas Roadhouse gives a lot to Girl Scouts, and it’s meaningful when we can give back.  Girls can drop in and drop out, do you not need to commit to the entire time.

Contact Barbara McGrogan with any questions – (609) 320-8718

Cookie Training and Packet Pickup

Can you believe that cookie season is coming around the corner?  Yeah, I’m not emotionally prepared for that either.  (And neither is my front room prepared to become cookie central for a month.)  But it’s true!  It’ll be here before we know it!

Our annual cookie training and cookie sale packet pickup will happen on Monday Nov 18 at 7:00pm at IRSC’s McAlpin Fine Arts Center on the Massey Campus of Indian River State College in Fort Pierce.

If you haven’t already, please send your troop number and the number of packets that you need to Barbara McGrogan at ‭(609) 320-8718‬.

Port St Lucie Festival of Lights Parade

Melanie Caramma is heading up the planning for Girl Scouts participation in the Port St Lucie Festival of Lights parade on December 7

We currently have a volunteer willing to pull a float, and we are trying to arrange for a flat trailer to serve AS the float. What we need now are volunteers to help with design and construction of said float, as well as to walk in the parade.

All girls and registered volunteers are invited to participate in this parade: the more, the merrier so let’s all turn out the merriest bunch of Girl Scouts to ever grace the Mid-Florida Event Center.

The theme of this year’s parade is Mars, Space, Aliens, and Sci-fi so with all of us together we can show up in a way that is out of this world!

Reach out to Melanie Caramma for more information or to volunteer to help, or to let her know your troop would like to participate.

Guests are encouraged to dress in their wintery-nautical finery, and bring a dish to share.  Awards will be given for the most creative sea-themed name for their gustatory contribution.  (To be clear, the food does not have to be seafood, it only needs a creative oceanic name.)

Please bring a wrapped ornament for our annual ornament exchange.

Other fun games, prizes, and buffoonery included at no additional charge.

Also if your troop is participating in the Salvation Army Stocking service project, please bring your filled stockings AND unfilled stockings to the party.

You can bring them with you to the party to drop them off.

All Girl Scouts are invited to participate in the wreath laying ceremony, which will take place on December 14, 2024 at Rolling Oaks Cemetery.

World Thinking Day ~ January 11 at Camp Hidden Hammock

We’re planning a World Thinking Day event on January 11, 2025 at Camp Hidden Hammock from 9:30am – 1:30pm

Girls can earn the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Thinking Day and Girl Scouts Global Action badges at this event for all levels.

Cost for girls will be $7.50 and adults $5 – Registration will open December 1 at the Camp Hidden Hammock website

Gemini Service Unit Ingathering ~ Escape to Abalufa ~ March 14 – 16

Our annual Ingathering camporee has a date, a location, and a theme!
All we need is YOU!

This year’s Ingathering is called “Escape At Ahbalufa” and as you might have guessed it will take place at Camp Ahbalufa in Fort Piece on March 14 – 16, 2025.

The theme of this year’s Ingathering is mysteries, puzzle solving, and detective work, and we will be earning badges related to that theme for each level over the weekend.

Each campsite will be asked to contribute to the fun by designing an “escape room” style puzzle scenario or other mystery to solve within their campsite, to be experienced by the other troops / campsites who will all rotate through the various sites.

Alongside the mystery and fun will be food, songs, and fun with our sister Girl Scouts!

This is an excellent opportunity for new troops and younger troops to get a taste of the camping experience a little closer to home, while more experienced and older troops get to show of their creativity and enjoy the company of each other.

For everyone, it’s a fantastic time to make new friends and meet the old, as this is the one time every year that all our troops can come together!

Registration will be $35 per person, with a deposit and rough roster due in December.

You do NOT need to have a camp trained volunteer to participate in Ingathering.  If you are a new troop without a camp trained volunteer, let us know when you submit your deposit and we will try to partner you with a camp trained troop so that you can share in the benefits!

If you need girls moved / removed / transferred to another troop or council, please contact our community manager Jessica Gonzalez at [email protected] and she will facilitate the transfer.

If you are holding any public facing event, or participating in an event, and would like recruitment materials to hand out, please reach out to Jessica as well.

Congratulations to Bonnie for winning our fall recruitment raffle.  Thanks for helping with our fall recruitment efforts!!

Troop Activity Spotlight – Outdoor Art

Bringing back an old favorite, the Troop Activity Spotlight!

This time the spotlight shines on Jamie Turner and the rest of the team that planned and ran the very successful all-levels Outdoor Art Badge-in-a-Day program at Camp Hidden Hammock.

More than 75 girls spent a slightly rainy Saturday day working together, meeting other troops, and making art together in the great outdoors!  Well done everyone, and thanks to our leaders, organizers, and the Camp Hidden Hammock board for making this event a success!

Did you host an event or run a program that you’d like to see featured in a Troop Activity Spotlight?  Did your troop do something cool or have an adventure?  Send the details and some photos to Joe at [email protected] or tag me in your post on the Facebook group!

A few dates to keep in your mind…. or on your calendar.

  • Next Meeting – Leader Holiday Dinner Party – Dec 9
  • January 30 – March 2 – Cookie Season
