November Leader Meeting Notes

Better late than never I guess?  It has been a busy couple of weeks over here but I don’t want to leave you hanging any more, so without any extraneous blah-de-blah, here’s what you missed at the November Leader Meeting.

Cookie Training Session

UPCOMING EVENTS!

It’s ain’t all cookies, folks.  Keep an eye out for these upcoming events

Friendsgiving – Nov 18

Troop 42040 and 42050 are hosting their Friendsgiving Feast on Nov 18 and invited us all!  If you haven’t grabbed a set at the table yet, there might still be time!

Reach out to Barbara McGrogan for more information or to RSVP

The Gemini Service Unit is cordially invited to join Troops 42040 & 42050 for a Girl Scout Friendsgiving Party! Have your girls make dishes to bring and complete steps towards the following badges:

Daisies – Be a Sister to Every Scout petal
Brownies – Snacks badge
Juniors – Simple Meals badge
Cadettes – New Cuisines badge
Senior – Locavore badge
Ambassador – Dinner Party badge

This is a free event but petals and badges are the troop’s responsibility. Girls can join in with or without their troop – just have ratio parents.

The girls have decided on an Alphabet Thanksgiving – each troop will pick a letter of the alphabet and they will bring an entree, appetizer, vegetable, fruit, drink, and dessert beginning with that letter. (If your troop has more than 10 girls, please bring 2 of each item to ensure enough food for all.)

Gemini Service Unit Cookie Rally – Dec 2

6:00pm at the Moose Lodge in Port St Lucie

Come join us at the Cookie Rally and get your girls fired up for the 2026 cookie season!

We’ll do Exploremores tastings, mock booths, have cookie prize raffles, and more!

Cost is $3 per girl (no charge for adults/volunteers). RSVP with your name, troop number and how many girls will be attending to [email protected] or 609-320-8718. Can pay via PayPal at [email protected]; CashApp $BarbaraMcGrogan; AppleCash 609-320-8718; Zelle 609-320-8718; or Venmo @kitasumo

Cost does not include any badges earned – troops must purchase them on your own. The cost does include a Council Cookie Rally Patch

Gemini Potluck Holiday Party – Dec 9

Some times we just need to get together, eat too much sugar, play silly games, and enjoy each other’s company.  You are all invited to our annual leader holiday party at 6:30pm on December 9 at the Disabled American Veteran’s hall in Port St Lucie.

Food, fun, an ornament exchange, and a guaranteed good time for everyone!

CSA Weekend – December 12 – 14

Gemini CSAs are headed out to Camp Nocatee for a fun weekend of stargazing (complete with the Geminid meteor shower,) archery, hatchet throwing, and perhaps a bit of mystery and performance as well.

Wreaths Across America – December 13

If your troop would like to participate in wreath-laying at Rolling Oaks Cemetery as part of Wreaths Across America, mark your calendars for December 13.  Girl Scouts should be prepared to conduct themselves well as this is a solemn event.

Troop Camp Training – Feb 28, March 14-15

Troop Camp Training is a required course for leaders who want to take their troop camping: either as a troop or as part of a service unit camporee such as our annual Ingathering.  Camp training is probably the second most important adult training to receive, after CPR / First Aid.  This year’s TCT session is going to be in late February and mid-March, which bumps right up against our Ingathering dates.  If your troop is getting their TCT trained volunteer at this session, please let us know as we begin planning Ingathering, so that we can work to integrate that into our planning.

World Thinking Day – March 7

Save the Date – Gemini’s World Thinking Day event will take place on March 7, 2026 at Camp Hidden Hammock.

Girls will earn their World Thinking Day and Girl Scouts Global Action badges as a part of the event.

Registration is $7.50 per girl / $5 per adult and will open on the Camp Hidden Hammock website on Dec 1.

Leadership Opportunities for Older Girls

There are two exciting upcoming opportunities for older girls to take part in the governance of GSSEF.  Both of these roles may contribute to service and leadership awards for older Girl Scouts.

Girl Advisory Board Membership

Open to Seniors and Ambassadors – Application Due Nov 20

Have you ever wished you could give the “girl perspective” on issues related to Girl Scouting? Have you ever wondered about how some of the decisions are made for our Council? Serving as a Girl Advisory Member of the Girl Scouts of Southeast Florida Board of Directors is the perfect way to ensure that what is important to girls is considered. Being part of this important leadership team is also a great way to gain governance and management experience, and it looks pretty good on college and scholarship applications too!

Service Unit Delegates

Open to girls 14 years and older, and registered adult volunteers

Gemini Service Unit is seeing applications from interested girl members to serve as voting delegates to represent our service unit at the GSSEF Annual Council Meeting on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at GSSEF’s office in Lake Worth.

Positions are available for two girl delegates, plus one alternate and an adult.  Individuals who are interested in serving as a service unit delegate should write a brief letter of interest to [email protected]

Delegates’ term of service can earn them school volunteer hours, as well as six hours of Service To Girl Scouting or Torch award hours.

Last year’s delegates were Atlas Wilson and Courtney Mindler, and adult delegate Hailey Tumminelli.  Previous delegates are eligible for re-election

Our Next Meeting

Our next meeting will be the holiday party on Dec 9!  Hope to see everyone there!
