Happy New Year Girl Scouts!

Hi everyone!  I can promise you this is the last post you will see from us in 2024!  There are some important things to cover and some January reminders for you all.  So before the clock strikes midnight and we resign 2024 to the dustbin of history, here we go one last time!

Call For Volunteers

We need some of you to come join the Service Unit Team!

Seriously, we have open roles that need to be filled in 2025.

Our current Service Unit Team org chart looks like this:

  • Service Unit Manager – Robin Roberts (retiring June 2025)
  • Assistant Service Unit Manager – POSITION OPEN
  • Membership (Recruitment) Coordinator – POSITION OPEN
    • New Leader Mentor – Barbara McGrogan
    • Treasurer – POSITION OPEN (currently covered by Robin Roberts)
    • Volunteer Recognition – Joe Wilson
  • Events and Activities – Jamie Turner
    • Camporee Chair – Melanie Caramma’
  • Product Sales Leads – Barbara McGrogan and Laurie Bannister
    • Cookie Sale Team – Joe Wilson, Shannon Wilson, Gioella Bonelli

We desperately need new volunteers to step up and take some of these positions.

Certain volunteer positions are mandated by GSSEF, and are term-limited and thus must be filled.  If we are unsuccessful in filling these positions this year, council will close our service unit and combine it with one of our neighbors.

We need the following roles filled in early 2025:

  • Assistant Service Unit Manager (will be promoted to Service Unit Manager in June 2025)
  • Treasurer
  • Membership Coordinator

If you are interested in volunteering for any of these positions please email [email protected] for more information.  We can share job descriptions and more information if you are interested.  Our service unit team is a tight knit group and we support each other.  You will not be left on your own to figure out your role!

Gemini is one of the largest service units in GSSEF, in geography and in population, and we are consistently one of the most productive in terms of recruitment, events, and product sales.  Please help us keep that alive!

Reminder – Initial Orders are due in eBudde on Sunday, Jan 5

More information on the upcoming cookie sale, including instructions on how to register for the booth lottery and how you can help with the acquisition of cookie booths can be found on the service unit website.

World Thinking Day – January 11

Gemini’s World Thinking Day event is January 11, 2025 at Camp Hidden Hammock from 9:30am – 1:30pm

Girls can earn the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Thinking Day and Girl Scouts Global Action badges at this event for all levels.

Cost for girls will be $7.50 and adults $5

It’s not too late to register!  Check the Camp Hidden Hammock website for registration information!

Friendly Reminder to Register for Ingathering by January 15

This year’s Ingathering is called “Escape At Ahbalufa” and as you might have guessed it will take place at Camp Ahbalufa in Fort Piece on March 14 – 16, 2025.

The theme of this year’s Ingathering is mysteries, puzzle solving, and detective work, and we will be earning badges related to that theme for each level over the weekend.

Each campsite will be asked to contribute to the fun by designing an “escape room” style puzzle scenario or other mystery to solve within their campsite, to be experienced by the other troops / campsites who will all rotate through the various sites.

This is an excellent opportunity for new troops and younger troops to get a taste of the camping experience a little closer to home, while more experienced and older troops get to show of their creativity and enjoy the company of each other.

For everyone, it’s a fantastic time to make new friends and meet the old, as this is the one time every year that all our troops can come together!

Registration will be $35 per person, with a $10 per person deposit and rough roster due on January 15.

More information and registration forms are available on the Ingathering page of the website.

That’s all the imminent updates that are fit to print in this last email of 2024.

We hope you have had a fantastic holiday and some time for rest and refreshment!  We are kicking off the new year right in 2025!  Let’s go!

We’ll see you at the January leader meeting on Jan 6!
