September Leader Meeting Notes

Thanks to everyone who took the time to log into Zoom on Monday night! For those that couldn’t make it, or for folks like me who have the memory of a goldfish with ADHD, here’s a quick recap.

A Couple of Reminders Right At The Top

We want to keep everyone thinking about Adult Recognition awards and community awards.  These usually get lost in the shuffle of cookie season, so we want to remind everyone to be thinking about volunteers in your troop or in our service unit that might be deserving of an extra pat-on-the-back.

These awards follow the calendar year, so anyone who has exhibited outstanding service between last January and this upcoming December would be eligible for this season’s awards.  You can read about the awards and their requirements here.  If you have any questions about eligibility or anything else related to the adult recognition awards, please reach out to the service unit team!  We’re also happy to help write and review endorsement letters if you need some assistance.

Also, don’t forget that the Community Award, which honors a local business or other organization that supports Girl Scouts in our mission, is open for nominations all year long.  Think about the host of your meeting location, or the host of a cookie booth that you particularly appreciate.  You can submit an organization for a Community Award at the link below.

Call For Volunteers

Come Support Your Service Unit

We need some additional volunteers to help fill out the ranks of the service unit team.

Experience is less important than energy and a willingness to pitch in and help out.

We have immediate need for the following roles:

Membership Coordinator,
Assistant Product Sales Manager

We are also open to help in planning events, folks willing to serve as new leader mentors, folks with ideas for new and exciting programming, and more!

If this might be you, or if you have a dedicated adult volunteer in your troop that you think might want to help, please send us an email!

Updates from GSSEF Community Manager Jessica Gonzalez

Good News!  We’ve met our recruitment target for this year, and we’re well on the way to meeting additional stretch goals!

To that end, if you have hosted any public-facing events in the past few months, OR if you have any upcoming events planned in the next few months please let Jessica know.  We need to know about any past events, so that we can report them to council.  And if you have any events upcoming that need flyers or other recruitment material support, please reach out too.

You can reach Jessica at [email protected] or at (561)943-3199‬

We have a planning meeting for this weekend on Sunday, September 22 at 5:00pm at Panera in St Lucie West.  We’d love to have both adult volunteers and our CSA girls help plan this event, so if you have girls who would like to have a say in the way this weekend is run please plan on joining!

Salvation Army Stocking Drive

Dawn Borrow is organizing the annual Salvation Army Stocking Stuffing drive.  Each year troops collect stockings from the Salvation Army and fill them with toys, toiletries, and age appropriate items for any gender and for ages 0 – 12.  Stockings are typically collected from the troops at the service unit holiday party.

Dawn needs to know who would like to help with this community service drive, so that she can communicate with the Salvation Army.  If your troop would like to participate, please send your troop number and the number of stockings you would like to Dawn Borrow by texting her at (772)979-5109.

Ingathering 2025 Update

Hi folks!  Melanie Caramma and the Ingathering committee are hard at work trying to get an Ingathering camporee scheduled for us for the year.

The reality of the situation this year is that we only have two truly viable weekends to choose from.

One is March 14 – 16, 2025 – which is the weekend at the head of Spring Break for St Lucie County.

The other is May 9 – 11, 2025 – which is later in the year than normal for us and might be warmer than we like.

Before we proceed any farther, we need your information and opinion on those two weekends and if they would work for you and your troop.

Please help us out by completing the survey below:

The survey will remain open until Friday, Sept 13
